The preparation of The Report on the Losses Sustained by Poland as a Result of German Aggression and Occupation during the Second World War, 1939–1945, created under the auspices of the Jan Karski Institute of War Losses, was the result of intensive work by a team of outstanding experts, historians, lawyers, and economists. For years, we thoroughly analyzed archival documents, conducting research on the scale of material, human, and cultural losses that Poland suffered due to the actions of the occupiers.
This report is not only a summary of historical truth and an expression of the pursuit of justice, but also attempts to account for the wrongs that have remained unsettled to this day. It stands as evidence of the immense losses suffered by Poland, and of the outstanding claims resulting from acts of aggression and occupation.
The War Report is a testament to the professionalism and determination of everyone involved in this ambitious and extremely important project. We encourage you to explore the results of our research which shed new light on the tragic events of the past and their impact on the present.
The Report on War Losses, with total claims amounting to PLN 6.22 trillion, was presented on 1 September 2022 in a symbolic location – the rebuilt Royal Castle in Warsaw.
